AI Product Terms

Version v1 — Last updated: March 1, 2026

1. Scope

These AI Product Terms ("AI Terms") supplement the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy and govern the processing of your health and training data by AI features within Ryun.

AI features include chat-based coaching, training insights, and automated analysis. These features require your explicit consent before any health-related data is processed by third-party AI providers.

2. Your Consent

Before using AI features, you will be asked to give explicit consent to the processing of your health and training data by third-party AI providers, as required by Art. 9(2)(a) GDPR.

You may:

  • Withdraw consent at any time via Settings (Art. 7(3) GDPR)
  • Continue using Ryun without AI features if you decline or revoke consent

Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.

3. What Data Is Processed

When you use AI features, the following data may be sent to third-party AI providers:

  • Your chat messages and prompts
  • Training data (pace, distance, duration, heart rate, HRV, sleep metrics)
  • Derived metrics and performance summaries
  • Context needed to generate relevant coaching responses

We send only the minimum data necessary to generate useful responses. No account credentials, payment details, or persistent user identifiers are shared with AI providers.

4. AI Providers

Ryun currently uses the following third-party AI providers:

Anthropic (Claude)

Anthropic PBC, San Francisco, CA, USA

Used for: chat-based coaching and conversational AI features.

OpenAI

San Francisco, CA, USA

Used for: analysis and inference.

Voyage AI

Voyage AI, Inc., San Francisco, CA, USA

Used for: generating vector embeddings for semantic search and retrieval.

We may add or change providers. Material changes will be communicated by updating these AI Terms and, where required, requesting re-consent.

5. No Model Training

Your data is used for inference only — generating responses and embeddings for your personal use. We select AI providers that state that API customer data is not used to train their general-purpose models by default, and we apply available configuration options intended to restrict training use where offered. Provider practices are governed by their published policies and our agreements with them.

If a provider changes their terms in a way that would materially affect this commitment, we will discontinue use of that provider for health data processing or request your re-consent.

6. Data Retention by Providers

Each provider may temporarily retain API inputs and outputs for abuse monitoring and safety purposes, as permitted under their respective terms:

  • Anthropic: may retain API inputs and outputs for a limited period for trust and safety purposes, per their usage policy.
  • OpenAI: may retain API inputs and outputs for a limited period for abuse monitoring, per their data usage policy.
  • Voyage AI: may retain data temporarily for operational purposes, per their API terms.

Retention periods and practices are governed by each provider's own policies and may change. We select providers whose retention practices are proportionate and aligned with data minimization principles.

7. Safeguards

We apply the following measures to protect your data during AI processing:

  • All data is transmitted over TLS-encrypted connections
  • Only the minimum context needed for the request is sent
  • Data minimization: we strip unnecessary fields before sending requests
  • Garmin-provided End User Data is never used to train AI models
  • We use API-tier access with contractual data processing terms (DPAs or equivalent) where available

8. International Transfers

AI providers are based in the United States. Data transfers are governed by EU Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) or equivalent safeguards as described in our Privacy Policy.

9. No Medical Advice

AI-generated outputs are informational and do not constitute medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional before making changes to your training or health regimen based on AI outputs.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these AI Terms to reflect changes in providers, processing practices, or legal requirements. Material changes — such as adding providers that process health data or altering the no-training commitment — will trigger a re-consent prompt within the app.
